Have a quick look on eBay, it's normally awash with company car drivers selling their ( rather good ) BMW first aid kits, ( and Bluetooth phone cradles ) as they know the lease company is sending the car straight to the auctions Rolling with laughter

I got a genuine Audi one on eBay for about £5. Landrover ones are about £20!

Cannot see the point of these first aid kits that cost an extortion amount of money, when all you get is a couple of plasters, the odd tri bandage and a couple of dressings, to be fare you can knock your own up just as cheap and you know what is in it.

Also what realistically are you going to do with it, I have a little one in my and wife's Landrover's that I have knocked up for me to use but it is only a small one that has a couple of tourniquet's, large wound dressings and basic airway management. I am a paramedic so qualified to use these items, it's just you see people paying £20+ for little LR first aid kit that pi:censored: me off robbing Censored

I am not trying to say people should not carry them as I believe they should and first aid be taught in school too Freelander 2 Swmbos

Just had a quick scan of the 'bay... one seller is offering First Aid Kit VPLCS0319 for £39.99 against a LR dealer of Sidcup's £18.95 (RRP £21.05) for the same item. Both have free click & collect and delivery charges of £4.30 and £5.65 respectively.

I have asked the seller of the £39.95 if he is offering any added value given that he is selling for more than double the dealers price.

I'd still buy mine from Duckworths if I needed one though.

I used to be an volunteer local first responder so had the training for CPR, use of defibs etc. I would be interested in your opinion about defibs being rolled out recently. We have had a couple fitted in the village and I can't see any way that they could be used successfully in practise. By the time someone has run to get the defib, phoned up for the release code, run back with it, shaved the hairy chest etc then the patient is probably long gone and that is assuming that the person doing CPR isn't too tired by this time to be doing effective CPR. (and also assumes that there are two of you). I think it's more of a PR thing. What are your views? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

CFR's do a very important and valuable job not only in towns but rural areas too, there is a lot of misconceptions about defibs that come from the tv. They do not start the heart but effectively stun it to try and get it back into a normal rhythm.

Not too sure how your system works but I know in the village next to me they raised money to purchase a defibrillator and got the ambulance service to draw up a training plan, this is roughly how the day would go.

0800 hrs GP surgery opens and defibrillator goes to the surgery for Dr or nurse to respond.
1800 hrs on call person collects defibrillator, phone, tabard, BVM and few other bits from GP surgery and if a chest pain, cardiac arrest, unconscious etc call came in to the ambulance control centre that was within the 8 minutes of the village the CFR would be activated and dispatched until an ambulance arrived on scene. Then at 0800 hrs the CFR would take the kit back to the GP's. Weekends was just covered by CFR's there was a monthly rota so CFR's just volunteered.

A defibrillator in a public place can only be a good thing, yes it may take a few minutes to get the defibrillator to the patient even 10, but that may still be quicker than an ambulance that has a 20-30 minute run time, like we always say something is better than nothing, so I do not think it is a publicity stunt, they are also not cheap so it would be an expensive stunt too.

I would like to see more defibrillators in rural villages including more CFR's because we never know when we may need one. Freelander 2 Swmbos

Defiibs are vital pieces of kit, unfortunately, this sort of thing happens.
Vermin, that people protect ?... obviously a grudge against the person/family, sometimes, draining the swamp ain't a bad idea ...

If this person ever needs their heart started, I will be connecting via their testicles & run it till the battery is flat.

If someone asks.... oh I thought you need to connect it where it was most effective! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

There was a program on this in Australia last week. Large companies & board rooms etc have them. The program said it would be magnitudes better off having them in sports clubs. All us oldies are dying, thinking we can still play football. It's worth listening to at least the first one, had two kids 3 & 6!
