You will find that the "local number" isn't, the original area code is but the first two or three numbers of of the last six digits aren't in the normal sequence, for example in the area I lived in the UK 01436 the next sequence should be 67, 84, 81 or 83 but the fake number is always 4* so easily recognised. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

We have a BT8500 system with built-in call intercept. Only numbers in my phone book get through. All others have to give name and wait for me to accept call. Outcome? Simply NO spam or unwanted calls. Result!

I get them from time to time at work. I just play with them for a while. I always give the same story. Some get annoyed, some have a laugh. Here's one I recorded: Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

If I am doing nothing I often string the Microsoft ones along on the basis that whilst they are wasting time on me they are not ripping off some little old lady somewhere. It's a sort of civic duty, but eventually I get bored and tell them f k off and a proper job instead of trying to con people.

Yep, the BT system is superb, no more nuisance calls...switched it off for a short period because I was waiting for a call from an unknown number...and as soon as I did they started again. Well worth the small investment. |

Reminds me of the publican a good few years ago who offered the services of a telephone in a soundproof(ish) booth with a recording of typewriters, telephones ringing, and general hubub as a background. The pub was called "The Office" so no lies needed to be told in calls to waiting wives. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own! |

I used to get a lot of accident compensation calls so I used to string them along with a load of nonsense, never directly answering their question but turning it back on them making out them as the other driver who was at fault and owed me big compensation. Can be quite good fun and the time they waste with you and with them getting annoyed keeps them away from some other innocent person for a short while. I don't get those calls anymore, shame as they were good fun.
