i6 FL2 - Non Start

After 2 years, car has failed to start. Insert key and all normal start functions works, steering lock disengages and dash lights come on. Put foot on brake and press button. Dash lights and Nav screen all go out and hear a clicking noise by the gear selector. Have had battery checked and fully charged, still does the same thing, did full reset by joining battery cables overnight and still the same.

New Starter?

Could just be a duff earth, there are lots of posts about adding a secondary earth cable.
Try connecting a jump lead from the battery negative to the engine. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Just sorted this on my i6.
Get the under tray off, get someone to press the start button while you give the starter a few whacks with a hammer. If it starts , or attempts to, then it's the starter motor. I did this on mine, whacked the started and it fired up but went in to limp mode. Changed the starter and it fired up straight away, thus confirming a duff starter. Then I fitted the earth lead just as an added bonus.
Earth strap needs to be longer than on the diesel due to different position of the starter motor. Reckon around 42" as opposed to 36" for the diesel.

Now sorted........................It was the starter motor. Battery was fine, as was earth. I did put a secondary earth cable on and made no difference.

Tell tell signs were the nav screen and dash lights going out as starter button was pressed, solenoid clicking by gear selector.

New starter cost £165 delivered from The Starter Motor and Alternator Co Ltd based in Plymouth

Happy Christmas Very Happy
