There is a small lumpy bit near the German border which carries the title. They are also applying it to a large indoor ski slope. However it's the OTHER meaning that I wasn't aware of!
Regarding the Swiss Navy and similar concepts, there is the Goodwin Sands Potholing Club, and here in (very flat) Fenland we have the Pidley Mountain Rescue Team. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Have you had the wheels swapped around on the car, i.e. rears to front Question If the problem is the wheels themselves (one or both) it may cure the problem. I've come across this many times in the past. I've also cured steering pulls due to the front's having different RR's on each side by changing them for the rears. I would be very surprised it was down to tracking and you would have noticed the accelerated wear on the tyre shoulders by now:?:

It may also be worth getting them balanced on the car by a specialist, this was the norm back in the day but has become a dark art now. the Wheel/tyre(s) maybe fine but for some reason they are not mounting on the hub as they should and no amount of weights is going to cure it.

Hi Milo,
I too remember when you could have the wheels balanced on the car-can it still be done? if so where?
I do suspect that I have slight buckles, but then I am paranoid and notice even the slightest wobble.
There are some really useful tips coming forward.
As far as I know the wheels are still in situ as supplied, no-one has ever said they had swopped them over, front to back etc.
Cheers. Hit it he said, Hit it!--So I hit it, then he hit me---Doh!

Your welcome, it would be good to hear if you get it cured and what you did/what it was.

Will Google it myself I have never seen a hill in Holland-it is as flat as a crabs Arse!!

There is a village by the name of Pidley in Cambridgeshire. The place and the surrounding countryside is so flat and level that a kerbstone is the nearest thing to going up or down hill.

Pidley has a mountain rescue team. Very Happy http://www.pidleymountainrescue.org.uk

It is in fact a hardworking charitable organisation of good repute.

Perhaps a silly question but can you balance wheels "in situ" if it's an Automatic? MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Very good question.
Had them balanced yesterday at sons friends garage- they are 99% now, such a difference.
quess a lot is down to calibration of machine and dedication and knowledge of balancer- so far so good.
Fingers crossed. Hit it he said, Hit it!--So I hit it, then he hit me---Doh!

Back in the 60s and 70s the garage I worked in Wokingham motors also had an on car wheel balancer same as in post worked well but might be a bit difficult on a 4x4 and probably not advisable,at £100 for a pair seems more than enough!

Would not think that this would be a good idea as to balance correctly the wheels would need to be spun up to the equivalent of 60/70 mph.
Do not think this would do the auto transmission any good at all.

As I stated in my earlier post the main problem with my car was the tracking which was done immediately after fitting and balancing General Grabber AT tyres. I have also found that tyre pressures are important.

All the above work was done some 15k miles ago and everything still OK.

As a matter of interest the tyres have done some 25k miles and still have approx. 5/6 mm tread.
