Helicopter to Hospital cost in Austria/Europe

Going to the hills abroad for activity ? Just read an account by my ski Mountaineering buddy of how much a Austrian helicopter ride cost this spring for 13 minutes to get to hospital. Just Euro 5,100 !

Bill once presented was paid in 2 days as like me he is a member of the Austrian Alpine Club. There is a UK section and can be found on the Web with membership to include the insurance for around £40. Thumbs Up

UK section has over 13,000 members with most in there just for the outdoor insurance. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

You could always save £40, then launch a go fund me page, with a TV ad

Yorky Bob was injuried in the Alps and had to be flown to hospital, what YB didn't know was the cost of the chopper was pricey and YB didn't have insurance to cover it, or the costs of the doctors that treated for Tight ArseNoMoneyUs

Tight ArseNoMoneyus Causes pain and misery to 1000's of Brits abroad and this can be found as far as Australia and even Dublin,
It causes people to think the £40 is better in their pocket that spent on adiquate insurance

Your £40 donation could help people like Yorky Bob, and buy his mates a beer whilst YB remortgaged the house to foot the bills and drag himself home. for a donation of £30 we can buy signs and placards that read ' We Told you So'

Don't be Bob, take out cover before you go👍🏻 Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I did a stint as a First Responder for the ambulance service where you get a call at home and have a defib and oxygen kit etc and have to get to the (local) casualty asap and ideally within 8 mins (to help them massage their numbers) ahead of the ambulance. I was always amazed by some of the trivial reasons that people call 999 (like I fell over on the beach and I think I have sprained my wrist /ankle etc - hardly life threatening) and then you get a call saying do you need the air ambulance and coastguard? I even had a guy who was choking on his dinner at the local pub and the air ambulance dropped in as they were "in the area".
Of course not all calls are trivial but people have no idea of the cost of supplying these services and I think that if people were presented with say a £20 callout charge it would relieve pressure on the ambulance service overnight. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Outdoor Rescue teams in UK are all volunteers and fund raise for kit. I have been in more than one rescue team over the years and also been on the sharp end, the fire, ambulance or police service sit and drink coffee I am afraid to say as they can have little direct input often in outdoor rescue.
With the advent of mobile phones and walkers GPS we have many who do not learn to map read etc now so the phone is used at times when a bit of mist drops and no one is at risk. A sensible team duty controller today who can talk to a person by phone will try and assess if they need just to be told to sit it out until dawn as an example and leave teams tucked up for a more serious event. One Lake District team had a call from someone saying he needed a helicopter as he was going to miss his hotel dinner ! Daft Censored idiot.
Thin edge of a big wedge when you introduce any charges as it goes from being a small charge to deter to yet another cash cow for a corporate.
The point of me starting this thread is that the AAC UK is a club and one benefit is that the parent in Austria has 500,000 members hence marvellous insurance in the Alps where as my example shows you could loose a lot more than your life. My American friend was charged Euro 1,400 for a 2 night stay in hospital in Austria with Pneumonia (reason for helicopter). FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

We had a politician who was also the speaker of the house loose her position and in the end was not reelected for using a helicopter for a party fund raiser to travel to a golf course & charged $5000 to the state. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-07-16/bron...ht/6623900

Many years ago I had the opportunity to do an arial photo shoot for an hour. Was pretty nervous that the work went smoothly knowing the expense, but the flight was enjoyable nevertheless. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
