Visited Grosmont's three (and a bit) fords today and experienced wading at last!!. For those not familiar with the area, Grosmont is in North Yorkshire, and apart from being a major part of the North York Moors railway it is home to not one, not two, but three decent fords plus a mini ford. The weather was ideal, a little icy in parts which made the return run (well you have to don't you?), somewhat interesting.
The first ford we attempted is located on the left before the narrow bridge on the approach into Grosmont when travelling from the moors road from Teesside. The river was running well, but the depth gauge was only showing roughly 1.5 feet depth, so the car happily splashed its way across. This road seems to take you to a farmhouse or two, so we turned around, however whilst doing so during a reverse, the sat-nav display went off and the steering became extremely heavy. The display re-booted and the steering returned to normal straight away, so we proceeded back through the ford.
As the car seemed ok we travelled on towards Grosmont, across the railway lines and turned right into a "not suitable for vehicles" narrow road leading to a double ford and then a smaller splash-type ford, then a winding climb up an at times icy track. After approx a mile, we decided to retrace our way back down the track and the icy surface had the car slithering several times which made things interesting!, then back through the fords. The car behaved really well, with no repeat of the electrical issue experienced earlier. Great fun!!

Be careful, wading through a pond covered in ice cost me an intercooler several years ago.

I've been through the same fords, there are good however there wasn't much water when I did it in summer!
Also took in other lanes whilst we were up there!

Looked at the main river ford about a year ago from the far side (as in side away from Gromont).

Had we tried it we would be currently be somewhere in the North Sea.  FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Just checked the manual:

Wading When wading through water, select the program suitable for the surface beneath the water. The maximum depth of water should not exceed 500 mm (19.7 inches).  FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

A bit too close to the air intake for comfort.

Sudden engine lock followed by a bust block.

Do the off roaders snorkel them ?  FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Fellow member, CQR constructed a snorkel for his FL2. I believe he posted images of the construction and fit.

Don't think they are avaible as a stock item.
