United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 Dynamic Auto Santorini Black
Result!

Picked up my car from Harwoods, Hove @ lunchtime, today.

I posted last week about the "Gearbox Fault - Reduced Traction" (Amber) warning which came up on my car.

My car is some months out of warrantee but:

I have had it serviced by the main dealer (whom I bought the car from) - I have a service plan with them
It's only done 34,000 miles
The "fault" is known to LR

so:

Land Rover agreed to foot the bill which I am led to believe would have been about £800 (?).

Chuffed about that. Thanks LR and...

Thanks Harwoods (Hove) - impressed with the service.

I'm off to enjoy the rest of the weekend.

RR

It's funny how we cheer when things get fixed but never question why they go wrong in the first place.
I once worked for a big British IT company, ICL. Up until the early 80's we had terrible reliability problems and almost went bust a couple of times until we were taken over by Fujitsu. They came in and their engineers had a totally different culture, our guys were into rapidly identifying a fault and resolving it whereas the Japanese simply said that things should not fail in the first place. As an example we had power supplies that were failing, their solution was to put in units which were overrated - more expensive but cheaper in the long run. There were lots of other examples but within a year or two, hardware reliability ceased to be an issue at customer review meetings.
I often think about this when I hear of the steady stream of FL2 problems with, for instance , the rear diff problem. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Yep, cutting corners like this can damage a company so much. Many years ago I read about AMSTRAD and their stereo systems that were about £180 in the 80s and the engineers reported that the CD player sound was so poor that the tape deck sounded better. The solution was to make the tape deck sound worse.

I dont know how true this is or not but it has been circulating for many years without any rebuttal

TBH I dont know why they do it as we know that the amount they would purchase from a supplier would allow for large discounts and the customer wont really feel an additional £100 or so.
