You should be able to see the fine heater grid in the glass if you have an electrically heated screen fitted. It may be that the cheaper option of a standard screen has been fitted for mot / selling on by a previous owner.

I have this car too. The button is for a programmed heating of rear screen, mirrors etc and seems to speed up the heat from vents but I don't think it has electric elements in screen. 12MY 61plate FL2 TD4 auto GS Orkney Grey Roof spoiler full size spare

If it has electric elements in the screen you can see them, you need to look at the screen straight on, not look through it. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
