Key Fob Battery Replacement

Freel2,

I am not as lucky as some of you to live near someone that will fix the key fob for a small fee.

And the dealer is way too expensive.

Proceedure

1. Cut open the old Key Fob

2. Check the function by depressing the micro switches directly

3. Measure the battery Voltage (mine was fine but I replaced the battery as a preventative measure)

4. Release the battery holder

5. Un-solder the Old battery leads

6. Use the tool shown (picture below) to clear the solder from the printed circuit board

7. install new battery

8. solder the leads (Pb/Sn or SAC with NoClean if such things are meaningful to you)

9. put the PCB into a new shell

Close up of the old housing notice the worn + this is why my remote was intermittent

When you press the plastic housing the plastic bends and the + comes into contact with the micro-switch on the printed circuit board. For my remote 10 years of cycling was enough to wear away the + and cause the remote to not work as intended.

Close up of the new housing brand new + now the remote works with a gentle push

Happy Motoring
