I am a huge LR fan, but this doesn't make for good reading.

Sorry, but it works the other way too - very much depends on the dealer and how busy they are:

Yes it depends on the dealer. Put mine in for a minor warranty job this week - the salesman I bought it from was genuinely embarrassed and offered me his own car if they couldn't find a loaner. They booked me out a new model Disco, but that hadn't come back when I took the car in, so they loaned me a new Disco Sport instead and apologised for it being a manual! (Nice gearbox by the way - liked it as much as my auto!) Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

A friend and colleague had had BMW's for years, when his 4 year old 520d M Sport's engine's cam chain failed, wrecking the engine in the process. BMW UK couldn't have been any less helpful if they'd tried. The best offer he got was: "Take it to your dealer, get them to remove the engine and investigate the fault at your own cost. If it turns out to be a manufacturing defect, we'll talk. If it's just one of those things, then you'll need to pay for the repair". In the end he sold the basket case to a trader specialising in badly broken cars. The trader told him that he recently had to collect a X3 2.0d direct from a dealer, where the owner had taken BMW up on their offer (as above). The trader had given him just enough for the remains of his car and the engine (in a series of boxes) that he could clear the BMW garage's bill for dismantling his car to "fault find"!! Friend now has the previous Jaguar XF 2.2d and he loves it! |

It explains why the new Discovery is so hard to tell apart from the RRE, DS & RRS. Will it get them another 80-90,000 sales, in place of their current 51,000 or, as it's so similar, will it simply substitutes sales from the other three look-a-likes? Only time will tell. |
