United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black

We drove the Discovery 5 at Rockingham last weekend. Lovely car, amazing off-road but plug ugly from the B pillar back.

I went to sit in one when I visited the dealer a few days ago. I went to get into the front seat (in the way that I would the D4) and, just as I did getting into the rear of a DS, banged the side of my head on the lower roof! Evil or Very Mad

I've been too spoiled by driving FL2's & D4's to consider spending D4 money on something that's too much like an ordinary car Sad

Followed a black Discovery yesterday - my god it was fugly! Looked like a oversized Ford Galaxy from the rear and the offset reg plate looks daft. If also had black discovery lettering on the back - whats the point of having lettering on if its the same colour as the car?

Some like the stealth look, not for me. Could be a first edition, it's available in black or orange and both have black lettering.

Your's does look 'slighty' nicer than the one I saw, being black with privacy glass did make it look like a van. Still think the offset reg plate would be better being centre but understand the reasoning behind it.

Having recently been in the market for an FL2 replacement I now find myself looking at SUVs on the road and trying to distinguish which model is which. They all look the same no matter who makes them
A few years ago I was talking to a senior guy in the car industry about this general trend and he said that the ideal situation would be a "white label" generic car where you paid extra for the branding and badges - which is almost exactly where VW is heading with their family of brands SEAT, Skoda, VW, Audi etc 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE

I've had one of these monstrosities on my drive for a week now, hate it, the rear end only a mother could love, it's a lot bigger than a D4 in length, not ideal for in town parking.
We cannot get comfortable in it, I nor the wife cannot sit in the seats with our shoulder blades being supported without getting neck ache, the head rests only have adjustment up or down, they seem to far forward, so when you lean back in the seat your head is forced downwards.
The arm rests are to low on the seats to the point of them not being of use, the hand brake is to close the the cubby box by your elbow would be much better placed three or four inches further forward.
To much roll for my liking, its on 20" wheels but a higher profile to what my D4 has, D4 running on 255/50/20 against 255/55/20. With five adults it's even worse, wallowy.
Considering two of the pistons are missing it does have a surprising amount of go, but the low down torque of a 3.0 litre is a big miss.

Had a Disco TD5, when you sat in at the time it just felt right, then a couple of FL2's followed, then the D4, again when you sat in it it just felt right again, the D6, it's just wrong.

No, not for me.

Won't be sorry when the D4 is back.

Bow down

Compared to the D4, it's well fugly. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

I just went to Eastnor yesterday to do my half day's Experience in the D4 that I'd booked three months ago (having bought my second D4 in November).

Despite having promised that a number of D4's would be retained, they'd just removed all of their D4's and replaced with 5's (Land Rover have been rapidly replacing their own loan car fleets with these cars in what appears to be some kind of destressed registration frenzy). I was really not happy and declined it. It was especially annoying as the D4's were all parked up and ready to go, but had been "decommissioned" Evil or Very Mad

Happily, the staff there managed to come up with a FFRR instead, which was a lot closer to being comparable, although it still missed the point on getting trained on the car that I'd only just bought Sad
