One way re updates is to go on to topix and see what updates are due on yours. My Evoque, for example is due the Q585 engine management update which stops the slight flat spot when pulling away. The dealer told me that when I phoned up to book it in. You could always try ringing any main dealer, give them your registration number and ask them if there are any outstanding updates for your vehicle. Once done, I think its recorded in the LR system - must be because the dealer I phoned knew it was due on my car.

I'm going to mark some of the items just out of interest to see what happens. I see it as a big risk handing my beloved hippo over to anyone for service or repair. I'm thinking of asking my local MD who helped break my previous auto for a price, then talking to the supplying MD as I would be prepared to travel if the service/trust was betterer. I want some roof rails/bars/spare wheel which the local parts dept (who have been quite helpful over the years) will give me the 10% allegiance discount on. If the supplying MD can offer me a card and the same discount then I will travel.

If you're going to mark items, I'd suggest you do it discretely. Many years ago when I was doing my apprenticeship at a Vauxhall main dealer, the mechanic I was working with had a Viva come in for a service. The owner had marked the Points, plugs, air filter and oil filter housing with tippex. We did the service, fitted new parts and marked them the same as the ones we took off (and kept). Sure enough, after the customer had paid his bill, he lifted the bonnet and started poking about. He then stormed back into the reception and complained loudly that the parts hadn't been changed. The laugh was on him when my mechanic produced his old marked parts. (Mechanic got a warning for his behaviour to a customer though!).

While in ATS in Driffield East Yorkshire this Saturday having my tyres changed I asked for the battery to be tested for free (as advertised), OK but down on charge so I will be getting a battery conditioner I guess as I do some long runs almost weekly.
