Squeaking sound from gear box + stiff gearchange

Hi guys,

This is my first post in this forum and i would firstly like to congradulate all of you for this lovely forum. It is fantastic and it has all the information a FL2 owner needs.

I am from Cyprus and i bought mine before 4 months (now has 7000km).
Until yesterday everything was fine with no problems but since yesterday morning i start having the same problem as many of you here have with the gear box.
First and second gear change is stiff and also first and third gears make a squeaking sound but not always, only in the mornings and late in the evening.
Until now the weather here in Cyprus was hot but since yesterday morning (same time my problem started) the temperature has gone down and i think it is associated with my problem.

After reading your posts i decided to visit my local Landrover dealer where i explained to him what is the problem and he asked me to whait for 5 minutes but after 10 minutes i realise that all of them had gone for a 2 hour launch brake leaving me there waiting for them!!!!! (IDIOTS). So i left and i called them after 2 hours and they told me that they will call me back and tell me when to go there so that they can drive it and according to their findings decide what to do, also they said that the first thing they will need to do is to change the gearbox oil and see what will happen.

So this is my little story.. as you can understand i am a 'Happy' LR2 owner that hates the Land Rover dealers. Its a shame cause its a lovely car...

OK I've finished my foie gras, lobster and caviar. I must say the vintage Krug washed it down nicely Laughing
(heinz ravioli and tap water Big Cry )

I think your dealer just need to lube the gear linkages and the squeak will go away, Seems to me there wont be many LR dealers on your island so it looks like you are stuck with the lazy dealer you have. At work

Not good at all, knowing that they was going on a 2 hour lunch break and making you wait it well out of order Evil or Very Mad

I can't help on the problem as i haven't had it, but there is a member (Supertrotter) over on RRSport who lives in your part of the world and has his RRS serviced at Limassol, though I'm not sure if its main dealer or specialist LR garage

You might get better service there:thumbsup: Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

hi guys,

Thanks for your replies Very Happy . I called my local dealer and make a complaint about this. They called me today in the morning apologizing and told me to go there today and they will check the gear box. I hope though that i dont have any problems with them since the gear box problems occurs in the mornings that the temperature is low so now that i will go there they will not be able to see the problem.. I will keep you posted as to their findings. Freelander 2 GS TD4, Stornoway Grey, Manual, called BEAST!!!

Hi people,

At last, today in the morning i took my FL2 to my local dealer to inspect the gear box. I just got it back now and it sounds and feels great (don't know if the problem comes back after a hundred km). When i asked them what was the problem they said that they lubricated and greased some bearings in the gearbox... i am again a happy FL2 owner Smile
