Police Scotland have arrested a 95-year old man after compromising photographs of Pippa Middleton, sister of the Duchess of Cambridge, and her Fiancé were offered to two national newspapers via the instant messaging platform WhatsApp.

Working on a tip off from the newspapers, officers were able to trace the IP address of the hacker to a property near Balmoral, Aberdeenshire where the man was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Computer Misuse Act 1990. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is thought to be a member of the hacker group Anonymous.

Using the online alias “Phil the Greek” he offered the photographs, thought to have been stored in Miss Middleton’s iCloud Account, to The Sun and the Daily Mail. According to Tony Gallagher, Editor of The Sun, the hacker had offered the photographs to the newspaper “in revenge for upstaging the man’s daughter-in-law at her wedding in 2011 by wearing ‘that dress’”.
