Since dashcams really took off, police forces have been snowed under with dashcam footage being sent to them but some of the less severe stuff they just don't have the resources to pursue. There have been cases of convictions secured thanks in part to dashcam footage.

A 17yo lad was killed on the A1 near Grantham the other night. He was riding his scooter and got knocked down by a hit and run driver who was later caught and arrested. But the Police have specifically appealed for dashcam footage around the time of the accident to try and see who was doing what. They don't necessarily want footage of the accident, just to see how the driver and the scooter rider were behaving. They will definitely become the norm.

Had a discussion the other day with my "keen cyclist" sister.
I was complaining that many cyclists were using the road rather than the dedicated cycle paths along side the road, particularly the A580 which is a busy dual carriageway.
She stated that the roads had a smoother surface and that her lightweight bike struggled with uneven surfaces.

I did point out that a standard road bike would have no problems, and that it was like complaining that roads are poorly maintained because they are unsuitable for a F1 car. But what do I know? I hate all forms of exercise, so cycling and rambling are subjects about which I know little, and their supporters just seem mad.

Why would anyone ride from Lands End to John O groats (twice - I said she was keen), or why would you walk in the pouring rain up some sodden hill in the dales, when you could go for a drive? Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
