I like the look of the jet black phone but I suspect a mere sneeze will introduce scratch city to it! Checked O2 offers (new customers not upgrade) and they offer £69.99 up front for the 32GB then £60 per month with 20GB of data.

I would usually go for a cheaper tariff but that one includes yearly upgrade and it's 'only' £10 per month more than my current plan but with a lot more data. I just need to know if they will demand my current phone be sent to them. I can understand sending the 7 back to them come upgrade time but would like to flog my current phone privately.

I'll do some digging.

Don't they teach you kids basic finance these days? Whistle

That package would cost you £1500 over two years. Buy it outright (£719) then get a sim only unlimited texts and calls plus 30GB (that's 10 more that 20!) data from Three for £24/mo and it'll cost you less than £1300 over the same period. That Three sim is only 12 month contract so you're free to get a better deal (or iPhone 7S or iphone8) in 12 months time.

All these upgrade 'deals' the airtime companies provide are for their benefit, not yours! Mind you, if your stuck with the remainder of a 24 month contract............... Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I haven't got enough spare cash to buy the phone outright (don't they teach you OAP's not to make assumptions these days Laughing ). The SIM deal from Three would still need me to buy the phone in instalments and even interest free would exceed a total of £60 per month over 12 months. Over 24 months it would be a total of £54 per month.

With the O2 deal I'm only paying £10 more than my current contract but with the added bonus of 20GB of data and a new phone every year. Could have gone cheaper if I'd have stuck to just renewing every other year but this deal suits me as the new phone is easier to get hold of. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Hmmm. I think people are beginning to cotton on to the fact that they are being taken for mugs by Apple. A definite change from years gone by when the queue for the iPhone 5 went all the way outside the Lakeside shopping centre.

Beginning of the end for the latest must-have iPhone hype maybe?
