Freelander fuel guage and limp home mode

hi all, i got my freelander a couple of months ago, i bought it from a private owner so i have no warranty so no one to fall back back on but then i paid less than a similar car for sale at a dealers.

the new car drives nice, but i have noticed that the fuel guage isnt very accurate, i also have a freelander 2 on an 07 reg and i had no problems with that car, i have owned it for 2 years and use it for my job.

the fuel guage hasnt really caused me a problem until yesterday, i went up to leeds a trip of about 100 miles each way, the weather was terrible.

coming back, i turned the car on and a message appeared, engine reduced performance or something similar, i turned the e car off and restarted it and the message didnt reappear. so i set off and the fule guage seemed lower than when i arrived and within 50 miles the orange light came on, that was odd as i thought i had about half a tank left.

so i filled it up and it cost just £30 to fill up until the pump clicked.

so i set off again, within 10 mins a message came up again about reduced performance, the car went into limp mode and i couldnt rev it more than approx 2250 rpm, the car had loads of power and i was still driving at just under 70mph.

i started to think is the engine problem something to do with the weather, it was raining heavily, i drove it for 90 miles like this and got home.

it seems odd that even in this state the car had enough power to do 70 or thereabouts, also the cruise control still worked and no engine warning lights appeared.

i then started thinking about possible causes
i hoped it was something simple like the intercooler hose, i checked it this morning and no luck it looks fine.

after doing some research i have read of other people who have had problems with the fuel guage and limp home mode.

so has anyone fixed the fuel tank problem based on the the landrover bulletin or did you just replace the sender and pump

if you have had similar problems were any fault codes logged and did your cruise control still work

If the vehicle believes there is less than about 12 miles left in the tank, then it will go into reduced performance, you should be able to go about 70mph, but you will not be able to rev high, 70mph = 2000rpm ish.

Do a search on fuel senders, there are quite a few posts.
Sounds like either the senders or the wiring is faulty. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

re

hi, as i say it hasnt bothered me before, it just seems odd that the cruise control kept working and no warning lights appeared

the tank is showing half full now, when i put some fuel in i was in leeds about 100 miles away, the tank was full as the fuel station pump was clicking.

so i guess i have used about 3 gallons, when i got back home i went to the shop and it was fine for about 2 miles than it started again,
i had a look at the intercooler hose and that looks fine, i am going to change the fuel filter today
