First Ive heard of all this
because Yorkshire folk would just moan about the traffic stiopping them getting out to buy whippet and pigeon food?

I guess they've only chosen a Northern venue because the precious Londoners want to use us a quarantine area against zika.

Yorkshire will have a little parade in near ever town, for their local winners Well done team Yorks At work

Congratulations and well done to all the athletes - good for you for doing what you like, but soon, thankfully, the whole boring show that dominates the telly and the news will be over so why prolong it?

Nice to see them acknowledging a city in the north. I did hear that a few of the GB team medallists originated, live and train in the North West area (cycling for example) so why not? Why choose Yorkshire? (My Mother-in-law is from Yorkshire. Yawn )
OK so I’m Manchester born, so I’m biased. Gone:

Interesting article in the FT saying that the strategy for providing funding for the olympics was to concentrate on sports with the greatest possibility of winning multiple medals eg swimming, running etc a lot of events received little or no funding

“It made no difference how popular the sport was with the public, how suitable it was for the mass market, Volleyball and table tennis were excluded from funding programmes, despite their broad appeal and wide take-up in the population.” 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Perhaps if they thought about improving Leeds & Bradford 'International' airport then flight BA2016 (British Airways special flight to pick up the Olympians) might want to land there. Instead the thought of wiping out the elite due to that notorious side wind at Yeadon plus the fact they might have to get their f'ing finger out and employ a baggage handler for all their bags is far to much for the airport to handle.

I vote it the worse airport in the country and I only live 30 minutes away. I once was waiting nearly 2 hours for my bags after a flight from Furteventura. Lad next to me rung his mum who works there. Reply 'oh that's normal for a sunday night, the handlers go home early'.

Anyway I digress. Great to see that a city north of the Watford gap has got this 'prestigious' event. I may despise a certain football team in Manchester seeing as I am Leeds born and bred (indeed born 10 minutes away from Elland Road) but Manchester is a great city (for a pub crawl that is). If any of the Olympians are reading this on their way back I will happily provide a map of that pub crawl for the, free of charge.

On the subject of Olympics I was over at our neighbours house the other night and he pulled out one of the 2012 torches and then we watched the video of him carrying out around Rotherham. Pretty impressive that.
