Congratulations and well done to all the athletes - good for you for doing what you like, but soon, thankfully, the whole boring show that dominates the telly and the news will be over so why prolong it?

Nice to see them acknowledging a city in the north. I did hear that a few of the GB team medallists originated, live and train in the North West area (cycling for example) so why not? Why choose Yorkshire? (My Mother-in-law is from Yorkshire. )

Interesting article in the FT saying that the strategy for providing funding for the olympics was to concentrate on sports with the greatest possibility of winning multiple medals eg swimming, running etc a lot of events received little or no funding

Perhaps if they thought about improving Leeds & Bradford 'International' airport then flight BA2016 (British Airways special flight to pick up the Olympians) might want to land there. Instead the thought of wiping out the elite due to that notorious side wind at Yeadon plus the fact they might have to get their f'ing finger out and employ a baggage handler for all their bags is far to much for the airport to handle.
