Melted coil, reduced performance, fixed, now won't start

Good day sirs!!! Have an 08 LR2. Gasoline i6. Car was driving perfectly when all of a sudden started to stumble and a " reduced engine performance" on the screen. Smelled and saw smoke coming from the engine compartment. Immediately stopped and opened up hood and actually saw a coil melting ( but not on fire ) in front of my eyes. Turned the car off. The harness was undamaged. I removed the coil and removed the spark plug and replaced them both with brand-new units. Now car won't start. It doesn't even try to. There was no issue starting the car prior to this incident. When you put the key in and press the start button the dash lights up like normal is all kinds of things clicking in the interior of the car but not a peep from the starter. There are some blinking red lights on the dash that I believe are for the alarm. The battery is charged. I attempted a computer reset by disconnecting the battery for a day and then touching the two ends of the cable together for a bit whilst not connected to the battery. Same. Any ideas why it won't try to start now?

If it's like the diesel, if you replace an injector and I'm guessing with the petrol, an ignition coil, you have to tell the PAM ECU the serial number on each injector/coil. This has to be done with SDD or some other diagnostic tool. MY15

No such thing as ignition coils programming on gasoline engines.
Use a voltmeter to see if the starter is receiving the 12V start command. If yes, give the starter motor some taps with a wood thing.

This was going to be my game plan tomorrow morning. I was concerned the dealer maybe had to "unlock" the ECU after the "reduced engine performance" message or something like that. If that's not a thing then I'll start looking at mechanically why it may not be starting. I was also questioning the engine immobiliser feature I read about in the manual related to the alarm and wondering if there was some connection there?

If that blinking red thing you are talking about is the immobilizer led, then yes.
It would be useful if you've had an LR compatible trouble code reader...

I can buy one tomorrow. Any recommendations in the US? Can they reset the immobiliser?

There is no such thing as resetting the immo on LR2. Just be sure to insert the proper key.
But if the immo lost the keys information, then the dealer level of software will be able to help you.
So, is the immo led blinking? The one below the speedo? How is it flashing? Is the pattern one of the bellows?

The alarm seems to follow these patterns.

So I put a voltmeter on the starter. The battery has 12.2 V. The hot wire on the starter has 12.19 V. The starter trigger wire sees 11.59V when starting but does nothing.

So starter problems... Nothing to do with the coil repair.

It would appear that is the case. What a weird coincidence. No inkling whatsoever prior to the coil at the starter was on its way out. I'll get a new starter and report back on both the coil issue and the starter issue. I want to thank you personally for your input and help.

I understand quite a few are using a starter repair kit for the 2.2 diesel successfully and saving a lot of money. You may find one for yours Thumbs Up FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
