Went out in the Freelander today drove about 8 miles parked up no problems went shopping ,came out re started car thought the engine was going to jump out of the car it was bouncing all over the place making a terrible noise,exhaust was bouncing around too ,stopped car waited a few minutes and pressed the restart,it run perfectly fine and drove home no problems,it was very scary thought it was going to explode lol ,Any ideas would be helpful Thanks Rob

Obviously not a permanent fault. Sounds electrical to me with the engine not firing on all cylinders - glow plugs, injectors ?? . Try a fault code scan first, may point you in the right direction. Jules

Others have reported this. Good news is that it probably won't happen again - just one of those things.

Had that happen to me, second occasion I pushed start stop button twice as I had changed my mind about starting up and it went berserk! After pushing stop again and waiting for a couple of minutes it then behaved perfectly and has done ever since! 2000 Xei 1.8 gone

Thank you for the reply and to other replies,it was a bit scary but will keep a eye on the car and maybe get a fault code reading,Thanks again Rob
