If you accidentally try to put petrol in the tank, a yellow flap in the filler neck shuts off making it very hard to fill the tank with the wrong fuel and damage the engine. The yellow stick you have is to reset the flap. It's a misfuel reset device. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

The yellow stick thing came in in 2011 I believe. I have one (11 reg facelift) but my son's 60 reg didn't. 2011 also saw the DPF added and reduced emissions and then the dreaded hesitation problem. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Over on the DS forum one member reported recently that his wife had managed to fill the tank with petrol despite there being an active misfueling system in place . FL2 gone now in 2016 Discovery 4 Loire Blue . |

You can still refuel with either fuel with the device activated as it doesn't completely shut the neck off but it would take absolutely ages. The fuel pump will keep clicking off. I suppose they make it like this in case drivers who accidentally trip it can still fuel up with the correct fuel if they don't know how to reset it/don't have the tool/don't know how to use the tool.
