Typical charging voltage 14.09v tested. Should I be worried?

After various unexplained flat battery issues and HDC faults I finally replaced the battery on my 08 FL with a new genuine LR part one. Am contemplating fitting an additional earth strap too. Had a alternator test done and was told its only putting out 14.09 volts. Should I be worried? Or is it the voltage regulator kicking in?

14.09v is not unreasonable, It's normally around that on mine, sometimes a bit higher sometimes a bit lower, I think it depends on the state of charge of your battery, a charging voltage of 13.8v used to be considered normal once, if it's consistently too high it will boil the battery anyway, specially on a regular lead/acid one.

Some of the newer types charge with a higher voltage though.

The additional earth strap will do no harm and may be beneficial, made no difference on mine but It's good to have the extra safeguard in case the other one comes loose or corrodes.

I just had my alternator replaced on my 2007 3.2 SE after having starting issues - the battery would go flat and the charging voltage seemed low some of the time. I tried a voltmeter on the battery, DashCommand reading the OBD port, and a voltmeter/charging indicator using the 12V plug in the center console. All would show anywhere between 13.2 and 14V. I went to a local and very reputable indie and they confirmed there was a problem with the alternator and replaced it.

After replacement, the voltage shown by the OBD port and at the center console power plugs is around 13.4V. I took the car to a local Autozone (popular here in the States) and they used an automatic tester to confirm that the battery, starter and alternator were all good. My gut feeling is that the charging voltage is low but I can't find any definitive charging information about this car. The LandRover manual only has some basic information on the alternator and battery charging since it relies on a specific tester to check for issues. The car still does not start as well as I would like, often seeming unwilling to turn over - although it always does. Anyone out there with the 3.2L 6 cylinder model that can confirm normal charging voltage.

Thanks in advance

That's ok, starting current about 238 amps and charging at about 80 amps soon after engine running.

Batteries have a life of about 4 years, after that you are on borrowed time and if you have lots of extreme weather it is even tougher on batteries. It depends what your time is worth I suppose! I have always replaced them every 4 years. It is Murphy's Law that the battery will fail at the worst possible time, & while also raining & other half is ripping shreds off you. Not worth the stress! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

14v seems fine.
The CAN network is very susceptible to voltage and a drain after shutdown and susequent restart would explain HDC fault and other ECU DTC's if voltage levels are low.
I would suggest you look for a module/ECU that may not be shutting down and hence an abnormal draw over time resulting in low battery. MY15
