Australia 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Ipanema Sand
Crank motor without starting

Hi all,

Our FL2 has been sitting for a while whist we were travelling. Long enough for all the oil to drain, I'm sure.

I'd like to be able to build oil pressure before starting. How best to do this on an early 2011 SD4?

Cheers

Unplug the injectors (although this may throw up a fault code). How long has it been standing? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Where is the plug to do that?

It will be 12 months.

There should be an electrical connector on each individual injector. You'll have to remove the engine cover to get at them.
Here's a picture - the injector wires are those with two, thin coloured wires going to them. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LANDROVER-FREELA...2003948891 Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

If it's been standing a year I would drop the oil and put fresh in.

In the old days you could turn them over with the starting handle. Very Happy 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

You wont be able to spray oil where it really matters... the contact between pistons/rings and cylinder walls.
Not to mention that according to tribology laws, a small film of oil is still present on various things. Indeed it will be destroyed on the first revolutions, but that happens at every start.
So, just put new oil and start it normally. In the end, it's not a naval engine... Laughing
