Freelander 2 on tour

Just finished a 2 month tour of the south of France in my Freelander 2.

The awning is connected to the Freelander with a specially formed 'C' section aluminium awning rail. That took some bending ........ in 3D !!!

The roof box is a standard Maggiolina.

Nice one.

What's that black thing on a square plate in the kitchen? I can't quite make it out but it looks like a piece of burnt toast!

My guess is a lid and a gasket off something?

That wheel carrier is a piece of kit too!

why have a smaller car ...... when you can have a Land Rover.

I took some chances in France ........ here is one of them .

I placed the map Long and Lat into the satnav ..........

This is where it took me .......

check out the terrain ....zoom in .... the very light sandstone roads ...... were actually dirt tracks ! ...... I drove for miles long this ..... just as well I had a 4x4 !!! sometimes there were shear drops. When I looked sideways it made me feel sick, I was on top of a mountain pass road (well if you can call them roads) . Boy was I pleased to find a tarmac road. Wish I had the dashcam on ..... in hindsight it was very enjoyable ........ but not at the time.*Sad sad

So I was 1,000s of feet up a mountain and at the point of the red dot marker ...... the satnav said ..... "you have reached your destination" .......... LOL ......... I still had another 35Km to travel. If my brother was with me ........... he would have got out and requested a helicopter rescue.

In hind sight ....... I would not have taken a donkey up that track ....

this what I have built in the past .......

Freelander 1 with Camel roof lamps ........ although a Td4 engine, this comes with a V6 front bumper, so I could fit the twin pod bumper lamps.

If you look close, you will note I have a 5dr Freelander with 5dr front roof rails and 3dr rear roof rails. complimented with 4 cross bars to spread the load of the roof box.

Oh ..... and a high level rear roof lamp pod.

....... and here is another .... Freelander 1 .....

this is a Freelander 1 1.8 K series with only 43K miles on the clock !

Bonnet pod lamps are from M&M 4x4 .....but I changed the lamps from rough Chinese lamps to the Cibie Land Rover lamps used on the FL1 2004 face lift model, as seen in the bumper lamps.

3dr roof bars with custom rear ladder. for those who know their Freelanders .......the roof cross bars are from the North American Spec.

here is my very first Freelander 1 .......

so this is a 3dr X plated vehicle, which went through may transformations form 1999 model to 2000 model to 2004 model

It was the first of the 2004 facelifts to be privately converted outside of Land Rover.

Yes the same sleeping roof box I used on the Y plate Grey Td4.

The rub strip on both side was a special only available in Australia ! wider than the UK spec option.

This vehicle had many mods .....

1. single piece roof replacement for the twin targa sun roof panels.
2. netted side windows in the hard top see pic above
3. sunroof in the hard top see pic above
4. short roof rails that only spanned the hard top, see main pic above

5 netted windows in the soft back
6. netted window in the rear tailgate (replacing glass window)

7.body coloured targa roof panels with extra short roof rails, again see main pic above.

........ and much much more....

what I forgot to mention ...... is I used to help run the |Freelander Club for 8 years Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

.
