Missing side repeater, possibly stolen.

Hello

I don't know if this is a common issue but I have just noticed that passenger side repeater is missing and looks like the wiring has been cut. Has anyone else had this happen to them, I am wondering if it was a botched attempt of someone trying to break in.

Considering that the wiring has been cut I can see it being a bit problematic to replace but no doubt, given the wealth of information in this forum, I will find a post which will help me fit a replacement.

Regards
TonyStrud

Hi Tony, I guess your side repeater was a 'clear lens'; earlier cars had an 'amber' lens.
.
Most probably somebody is wanting to update his earlier Freel2. Might I suggest that you apply a grease like Vaseline over the replacement and the other lens and leave it on for say a month to avoid the culprit returning for the second lens that he probably needs.
.
In our area a couple of years ago Vauxhall side repeaters were stolen because it was the 'in thing' to fit smoked black lights. devious persons even went to the Vauxhall main dealer and stole all the repeaters from a forecourt of second hand Vauxhall cars. You could search ebay and see people selling smoked repeaters on a regular basis!
.
So beware!
.
Dan at Duckworths will sell you a replacement lamp lens, you may need to go to a breakers yard for the bulb holder, as the Freel was designed by Ford and owned by them at the time you ought to find a bulbholder from most Ford cars as the same sub supplier would have been used.
.
Hope this helps, kind regards from Fred.

i think due to the fact the cables are cut says it was stolen, most likely for speed instead of faffing around removing the bulb holders etc

were the bare wires exposed and put together or anything? I seem to recall years ago it been a way to short out electrics on a vauxhall/ford to open the car, might have dreamed that though Laughing

If you did dream it we are sharing the same dream, something along the lines of shorting out the side lights, clout the bumper into thinking it had been involved in an accident, this would then pop the door locks iirc.

You are both right, it was how they used to get into Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3's. These were the first Vauxhalls fitted with deadlocks, and I can remember vividly in the early 90's when my dad was locked out of his CDi on a Petrol Station forecourt ....the RAC guy did exactly that and hey presto - all locks opened Foraging near Gaydon....

Thanks for the responses.

It was a clear lens so fredastaire is probably right in his thoughts that it is probably someone updating.

So its off to the breakers, when I get the time, for a lamp holder.

When our County 90 was stolen, the only thing left was a front indicator lens and the two screws that had been holding it. The Scenes of Crime bloke who came around was not one bit surprised to see it Question 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership
