Looking to buy a used FL2

Hi to all you extremely knowledgeable FL2 owners,

I'm looking to buy a used FL2, either a XS or HSE 2011 with around 50k on the clock, probably from a trade dealer (doesn't appear to be a LR dealer) or a private sale.

From other threads it seems that getting a LR warranty is a good idea (at around £795) from a LR dealer and I note that my potential car will need to be inspected first. I'm in North Hertfordshire and am looking for your advice on a good dealer or a dealer that I should avoid!

I'm also looking to get roof rails and bars fitted and getting a roof box. Any suggestions for the best and what cost to purchase and have fitted.

Thanks for you comments Very Happy

PS did the flattery in the first line have any effect? Laughing

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

Hi Ian

welcome to the madhouse Laughing

I cant advise on any dealers etc in your way as I try to avoid south of Watford Gap if I can Whistle

But there are plenty of threads on here which you can find via the search function on the top of the screen on the full length roof bars.

There are aftermarket ones and genuine ones out there. The genuine ones tend to be very pricy as they are stamped with Land Rover, aftermarket ones seem to be ok as long as you apply the usual common sense to buying (feedback score, reviews etc). Whichever you buy you will need to drill into the roof under the plastic strips. There are also 2 different types, one for cars with sunroof and one for cars without sunroof.

Prices for the bars are upwards from around £150.

Alternatively you can just get the Thule cross bars and feet, which will clamp under the door frames which are possibly a better option. Again there are threads on here via the search function

you may also get lucky in the wanted/for sale section here.

good luck and enjoy the FL2 when you get one,

Rog

Hi. I don't know what your budget is but there are plenty of Freelanders on the LandRover website if you search for used approved. Generally more expensive than private sales or non franchised dealers but I'm pretty sure all used approved vehicles come with a very good two year warranty and Land Rover Assistance package. I don't know if you can get a Landrover warranty on a vehicle not purchased from an authorised dealer. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

My two ha'porth .. Buy from a LandRover dealer, and buy in July. It is the doldrums month for 4x4 cars. You should be able to get a decent price on the car, and get a comprehensive warranty with. There are not hundreds of buyers queuing up to buy uneconomical, expensive to maintain , 5 year old used 4x4 vehicles ,( despite what the dealer may tell you ) so I think you should be in a pretty good position. The LR website search engine will bring up all the used cars in the country to your specification, and the price will vary wildly. Finding the lowest one, then contacting them to get a feel for their lowest price on it should give you a good bargaining position with any other dealer. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Thanks for the comments and advice.

Looks like Thule cross bars and feet Very Happy

Any advice on a relatively local LR dealer, hopefully from someone who does venture south of Watford Gap! Laughing

I have bought several LR from Marshals in Bedford.

I have had to haggle quite hard but they have come out best each time and have really tried to keep by business.

Ask for Emma - amongst the rapid turnover that is the norm, she has been great for each of the cars I have bought, part exchanged etc.

Cheers

Luke

looking to get an FL2 as our second car, just wondering.. if its 150000km+ on the dials should i avoid? Whats the most anyone has done here, and how is their vehicle going these days?

I know its all subjective based on service history etc but just wondering if anyone here can share storys of how their FL2s are going in their twilight years.

thanks
