Hello all,
I own an 58 Freelander 2, 2.2td4 with 94k on the clock now. For the last few months I've noticed an intermittent tickover problem. Basically around once or twice a week now. When I come to a stop at some lights etc. The tickover drops until the car nearly cuts out. May do this 3 times in a row, then fine for a few days. The tickover normally sits at around 700 revs. When the issue occurs it drops to around 4-500 revs for a few seconds, then picks up again. It does feel like the engine is going to cut out, but so far it hasn't.
Anyone else suffered from a similar issue or know what the the cause could be?
There's no codes stored. As have checked with my code reader.

Can your diagnostic tool reads the oil temperature when these happen?

I'll have to have it permanently plugged in then. I'll have a look at it's functions later. It does have some live readings. Although its quite basic.
So what are you thinking?
It only occurs once the engine is fully warmed up.
Either when you put the clutch in or when rolling to a set of lights in neutral.

Not necessarily... When it happens, plug it in and read the oil temp.
Generally, the oil temp has priority over the water temp for diesel engine ECU when adjusting fuel injection quantity.
Therefore a defective oil sensor could lead to these symptoms sometimes.

Thanks for that. I shall look into it. Once its up to normal running temperature, I'll check the oil temperature. When the tickover drops again, I'll then re-check it. Landy has now gone.

Nothing like buying someone else's reject and starting the whole cycle again. How times have changed, your worst enemy only used to be corrosion (and no wheels in a morning in Liverpool ). FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
