General cambelt tensioner question

A couple of months and 500 miles ago I changed the cambelt on wife's Peugeot 207. Anyone who has done a job like this will know that you set the cambelt tension by lining up the pointer with the notch as per the image below. On this car it's very easy to take the cover off the cambelt and see the tensioner so a couple of weeks ago I had a quick look and to my horror saw that the pointer had moved. I decided to keep an eye on it and now every couple of days open it up and it is clear that the pointer is sometimes in the right position and other times drifts either way. Initially I thought it might be a temperature effect and the belt stretching as it warms up (but cambelts shouldn't stretch or it screws up the timing). I am pretty sure that the tensioner is not loose as I torqued it up and used locktite on it. So has anyone else ever seen this sort of thing?

ps why is this not on a Peugeot forum? Because all they seem to do is put go faster stripes on their cars.

As I understand it, they only line up in the pegged position when changing and re-tensioning the belt. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

The tension of the belt changes as you true the engine each way

What you are seeing is the tension when the engine has settled, possibly turning back a little. I expect if you turned the engine the correct way, the tensioner would be closer to the pointers Thumbs Up

Yes, I guess that the fact that it's done 500 miles without throwing a wobbly tells you something. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
