How to check bottle washer power etc

Hello and I did search but could not find an answer that is specific to the issues really. I am sure I will be corrected and blasted if wrong Smile

OK FL2 08 TD4,

A good few weeks ago the front washers just packed up. Checked the fuses in the glove box and all fine, (the rear worked fine), so I suspected a dodgy pump.

Purchased one and went to fit and still not working. After removing the wheel and arch etc.

I had to re-route the water pipes to get the rear working on the front instead.

Now I did read that they have an inline fuse (I cant see it anywhere for the water bottle pumps)

So now I suspect it MAY be down to the push switch on the stalk, I can take the stalk off and replace no problems about 10 mins, but how can I check if it is that or not? I dont want to spend more money on a stalk and find out its and 20p fuse somewhere.

No noise when the button is pressed on the stalk BTW, thats what led to the new pump

Can anyone help with this diagnostics process.

Thanks if you can help and thanks for reading if you cant Smile

Can't you test the stalk switch with a multi-meter to make sure it is the problem? No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Headlight washers OK? Could be a relay problem.

Found this:

But new pump could be faulty of course. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Yes it could be a dodgy pump, but I suspect its the stalk button as everything else works. The link seemed to indicate this as well, even though he did not seem a happy bunny Smile

The simplest way to use the MM is to switch it to continuity (OHMS) and touch the probes together you should get a reading showing a circuit - do that on the wiring and/or contact you are testing - no reading = no circuit. Press the button and do the same again no reading = faulty switch (a good switch would make the circuit and show a reading).
If you do get a reading showing a circuit when you press the switch then it's not that at fault.

Hope that makes sense

Thanks for this info. but I suppose I cant do this on the switch/button only at the pump connector level. I know is one way this is easier, but in another the wheel and arch covers are a right pain Smile

I also noticed that the pumps have different connectors for the power, this is a silly thing as they are identical with this exception.

Could it be a relay?

If so which one controls the front?

Thanks

I had a the washers fail whilst under warranty. Called out LR Assist on the grounds that it's illegal to drive with no washers, loan car arranged and vehicle went in, came back with a new stalk (about £120). 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Yes its true, but I do have water to the front and thats the only legal requirement. Its not I cant clean the windows, its the fact that something needs fixing Smile Lots will get this but, but every time I get into the car I HAVE TO PUSH THE BUTTON on the stalk to see if a freelander fairy came in the night and fixed it.
Rolling with laughter Sadly not, so I have to try and sort it with help if I can.
