Which Petrol to use

Do we have to use 95oct or are these tuned for 91 oct. Thanks

You need to refer to your owners manual but I would guess 95 is recommended as a minimum.
If you don't have an owners manual you can download one specific to your model from Topix. MY15

I have not tested the Freelander but with my previous car I had for 18 years & a quarter of a million km I was able to test economy over long periods and found using 98 paid for the extra milage. So not only was I getting economy on par if not very slightly better than 91. 98 was not actually costing any more per km & the engine was getting better quality fuel. E10 was the least economical in the car even though the engine could take it.

To test your car you really need to drive consistently over a lot of tanks of the same fuel to get a reasonable calculation. If you have been using E10 for a long time and have all the data written down, try switching to 98 for at the very least half a dozen tanks of 98 in a row. The price on the pump always hurts looking at it but the extra milage you get you should be just very slightly ahead in dollar terms.

You will need to factor fuel price changes (or rather account for the differences recording the price of the fuel you are not buying). If you are getting X% increase in milage per tank you may be better off. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
