Malaysia 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Indus Silver
235/60R18 to 255/55R18 on the same set of rims - possible?

Hi,

I'm looking to change my current set of highway tyres (Michelin Latitude Tour HP; 235/60R18 - same exact size as the original factory tyres), to a set of AT tyres (BFG T/A KO2; 255/55R18), on the same set of stock LR rims that came with my 2009 FL2 TD4 HSE. Is this possible?

I've looked at a number of tyre size calculation sites:

https://tiresize.com/tires/Land-Rover/LR2/2009/Base-Model/
http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html

And the numbers appear quite close, but being unfamiliar with this issue, I'd like to ask if this would be possible, given the AT tyres would be wider than the original tyres. I don't have much choice in AT tyres in Malaysia, and there aren't any in 235/60R18 at all, but I might be able to get the BFG in 255/55R18. I would rather not switch to 16s or 17s for cost reasons (automotive items are taxed very heavily here), and would prefer to maintain the original set of rims.

Thank you.

i fitted 255 55 18' on the same rims

here : http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic12657.html?highlight=255+55+18

there was plenty of space, and they didnt catch at all.

I only removed them because in this size the Grabber AT's were terrible on wet tarmac.
I now run 235 60 18's Grabber's which are much better in the wet

Thanks for the reply. I read up on the thread. So I gather your problem with the Grabber AT was due to the tyre thread not having good traction, and not to do with the different width (255 vs 235)? In other words, do you think a hypothetical 235/60R18 Grabber AT would be just bad on wet tarmac, while a hypothetical 255/55R18 Grabber would perform as well as your 235/60R18 Grabber?

Just trying to be clear and not misunderstand anything Smile

Confused

the 255 55 18 Grabber AT was much worst in the wet on Tarmac than my current 235 60 18 Grabber AT's. Soo much so, I removed them very quickly. I still have 235 60 18's on MY discovery Sport, and they are ok on wet tarmac
