Never expected to be keeping the "Rover" as a long term car but due to the current LR range being built for hairdressers and shoppers he is going to be around for a long time to come.

I know the full history and I am ensuring preventive work is being done but is there a weak point with future corrosion anywhere that would be better treated now with wax oil or similar?

Collected a few stone chips recently so better get a touch in pencil I guess.

Take off the rubber trims around the wheel arches and inspect behind them . As for rustproofing/protection , Bilt Hamber do a very good range .

Hi, check arround the tailgate door handle. Especially the ends. It's quite common for the handle to rub through the paint underneath. There is not a gasket between handle and paintwork.

There was a strip of stuck on foam on my 2007 fl2. It had compressed and slipped from its original position. Fleabay provided some foam and a couple of minutes work gave me a new gasket.

I suspect that the real weak point in F2 long term ownership might prove to be the fact that they are normally diesel.

We are about to get priced off of the roads and especially out of major cities.
Usual short term solutions by Government to everything.

Long term solution is easy but I bet it isn't what they end up doing.

Apply pricing policy to dissuade diesel buyers ONLY to new cars. Wait for existing cars to get old and die. No voters upset then as new car buyers know what they are getting into and accept it or buy electric/petrol if they wish. Freelander 2 2012 HSE Auto SD4 Ipanema Sand

On a less depressing note, I am also thinking of waxoyling (in clear wax as the black stuff looks horrible) the F2.

This doesn't seem to be a very popular thing to do on a F2.

Has anyone done it to theirs yet?

Any particular areas to avoid spraying apart from usual brakes and exhaust?

I'm watching this thread with interest myself.

I've had a good few Land rovers over the years so I know what they're capable of in terms of tinworm, anyway I just got my first Freelander, an 08 plate XS. On looking underneath I've noticed a fair bit of surface corrosion on the front and rear subframes with a few crumbly bits along the edges, they're pretty substantial chunks of metal so I don't see it becoming critical for a while yet but I'd like to address it sooner rather than later and prolong their lives as much as possible.

I'm just wondering how many others have seen significant amounts of rust on the subframes?

Hi, mine is over 9 years old and 103,000 miles.

I've been lucky enough to spend half an hour under the car while it was on a lift at my local indy.There was a fair bit of rust on both subframes but we all agreed it was not serious and pretty good for the age, mileage and amount of salt used on local roads.

Just starting to see some bubbling around the front wheel arches and a little around the rear. Working my way around removing the wheel arch liners and edging

Not sure why black waxoyl is a problem. I paint/spray everything I can, as appropriate, whenever I can. I can see where I have applied it and if it has been washed off or rust has come back.

When I put the wheels back on and take it off the jacks I can't see it.
