What Would You Buy? (Excited Newbie Owner)

Hi all - Well, Ive finally bought a 2010 FL2 HSE TD4 2.2 Auto in Stornoway Grey. I pick it up next week.

From my basic learning, its pretty much stock standard HSE, apart from door protector strips halfway up the doors.

The car is in great condition, but me being me, I want to get a few toys for it or at least get it up to date.

Some ideas...

Update Satnav Disc(s)
Mats (it has none - probably a given that I'll be getting these)
Chrome Tailpipe Cover
New Nightbreakers / HID Conversion
Sidesteps (Jury is out on this, dont judge me!)
Colour coded mirror caps

There's probably a tonne of other things, but what would you guys recommend as a first off purchase for a new toy like this? Im sure these is a 'must have' or 'must do' whenever you pick one of these up.

Ive got exactly the same MY and spec as yours, Its my 3rd FL2, but first auto one. Loving it after 6 months of ownership and 11000 miles Smile

My first advice would be just to drive it, get used to it, learn the noises that come from it and the noises that shouldn't be coming from it. If in doubt just ask the questions on here (try the search function first though as there are threads on here about pretty much everything from basic modifications to reprogramming the ECU for more functionality.

There are plenty of places for upgrades, for things like mirror caps try powerful uk on the t'internet.
For things like bulb upgrades try the site sponsor advanced factors.
But have a good look at the for sale/wanted section. Always lots of stuff changing hands on there.

good luck with your new FL2 and enjoy it, they are great fun to own and drive

Rog

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Having recently bought a 2009 FL2 HSE, the thing that bugged me was that, altho fitted with Premium (Alpine) radio/CD etc), DAB was NOT fitted. There a number of threads on this and a particulalry good one on retrofitting it if your was not fitted.
Mine was fitted with side steps and that was a feature which my wife loves as she has mobility issues and it makes it so easy for her to get in and out.
One thing I didnt realise for a while, as my colour is also Stornoway Grey, is that the tailgate door handle/ number plate lighting fitting is NOT colour coded and is just grey plastic which i now see has started to fade/ discolour. I am considering either going for a chrome one (see PowerfulUK site) or a colour coded facelift (full width) type.

Each to his own of course and it would be boring world if we all like the same thing. 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto - Stornoway Grey - Hers (His, really)

guess I was lucky with mine then as its the HSE Premium (love the 13:1 Dolby surround Very Happy ) and came with DAB.

It also came fitted with genuine side steps.

Since I got mine I've changed the side vents to black, smoked side repeaters, colour coded mirror caps, facelift boot handle and 3rd brake light, fitted a centre cubby box/armrest and changed the interior bulbs to LED.
I'm planning on doing the front bumper facelift shortly depending on budget, and due to some lacquer peeling off a couple of the alloys I may go down the gloss black wheels route.

Thanks everyone, Im sure there will be more suggestions.

The car has DAB, I wasnt expecting it, but its does. I have also noticed the Grey Plastic tailgate handle - its not looking too tired, but I'll treat it it try and bring it back to life a little more.

Im leaving behind my Audi which had fantastic headlights, which is probably the only thing Im going to miss, so may focus on lights after some night time drives.

Will probably go for some quick wins, like bulb changes and side repeater facelift. It doesnt have roof bars, but I dont think I will have much need for them right now, so may keep an eye on the classifieds.

Its coming with warranty, so main concern would be going over anything to see if its needs sorting. I have only found an issue with not being able to open the passenger door from inside, which the dealer is sorting in prep for collection.

A " Hatchbag" or " Rhino " boot liner would be high on my agenda. Then you can carry , tools, dogs, rubbish, mucky boots, etc. And still keep the interior pristine. For the foot mats the LandRover heavy duty rubber are top quality, again will preserve your original carpets and any premium carpet mats you buy Thumbs Up 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Black side vents, and smoked repeaters, bigger alloys, front grill, led lights, window tints, roof bar & cross bars, cubby box and signature strip headlights - for starters lol

Have fun - it's a great car and you'll love it. Especially when the weather turns snowy and icy!!!

yours is looking really nice there EY.

Ive got most of the what you have got done, still would like to do the facelift front bumper but would go all black with a chrome strip around the grill spars and chrome fog rings.

My alloys have got some lacquer peeling on a couple of them so im toying with having them gloss black, and maybe having the chrome edge on my side steps done in black too.

Im leaving the lights well alone as LED bulb upgrades played havoc with my DAB reception.

Deffo update sat nav.
Genuine rubber mats.
Boot tray or Mat.
Do something to improve headlights. (many suggestions on this forum depending on your budget)

I am not a fan of chrome or side steps.
I like colour coded stuff.

Enjoy you car when it arrives.

Joe Fix it until it's broke !
