I've been having alot of trouble with my Freelander 2 2007 model the past couple of months. My car is randomly not starting. I insert the key, press the clutch and nothing happens. All the dials and checks start as normal but the car doesnt start. First time I didn't know about it and had it towed to my dealer. He disconnected the battery, waited a bit and then connected again and off it started.

This has been happening on and off for the past 2 months and it's driving me nuts. Dealer claimed that it was the battery and replaced it. I brought the car home and in less then 4 hours I could not start again.

Has anyone out there experience the same issue? Any advice or guidance.

Mine is doing something very similar.

Key in, clutch down, ignition on...

Dash illuminates, column unlocks, lots of clicking and noises from the dash, but won't start.
Occasionally brings message "Steering Column Locked" for which there was a TSB

After 7-8 seconds, the auto-lights come on, press the button again, and it starts fine

The TSB relates to an IPC, and a BCM firmware update to cure. Keep meaning to get in touch with GAP for the firmware, and see if that helps, but a lack of time has prevented me from doing anything with it.
And, it's only the wife's car

I don't know if this will help but I have had exactly this problem - Key in, Clutch in press button and then nothing !
I have had this since I bought the car 3 months ago and its been very intermittent starting whith the problem.

I have finally cure it and it may seem a silly answer but it has cured my problem and its simple.
Make sure that you put the clutch in all the way to the floor.
I was only putting it in down to a random distance and sometimes it started and other times nothing. since putting it all the way to the floor I have 100% starting and the problem has gone away.

That sounds like the switch that the clutch triggers is defective - this may be an area to get looked at.

Do you get a clicking sound from under the bonnet? if so it sounds like the problem I had with mine which proved to be the starter motor, next time it will not start give the starter motor a few good taps with a piece of wood then try to start it if that works you can either get a service recon starter quite cheap or buy some new brushes for it and fit them yourself.

Thanks for the comments but like I said My problem of no start has gone away altogether since I started putting the clutch in all the way to the floor,
Putting the clutch in by a random distance caused the problem because it wasn't making the clutch switch and I simply didn't realise it.
