Look on the good side, throttle body is relatively cheap and easy to do in a Saturday morning - while SWMBO is shopping/cleaning/sleeping.
The body does get some oil inside, it also has a carbon track and wipers to give a position indication to the engine ecu.
If they are dirty (more like when) they can give strange readings that the ecu will not like, it will not effect the running of the car - or even put the MIL (engine management light) on.
Eventually it will die, mine lasted over 130k, the sad bit is, if you rip out the butterfly and leave the rest of the gubbins in, the engine runs fine.
When mine died the nice man from the AA said "how brutal can I be" - I was stuck outside the mother-in-laws late at night !
He put a screwdriver strait through the unit, jamming the butterfly open - worked a treat, till I replaced it the following weekend. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner
