My brother in law has a Disco 4 which was in for some work on the parking sensors, and has been loaned a 2016MY Disco Sport which he hates (mainly due to the low seating position and being too car like to drive)

Quote of the century: "and of course, it looks good" - it's a darned good job he isn't still racing if his eyesight has deteriorated that much! Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

I can understand people knocking the Evoque for certain definable reasons - yes, it has got a smaller luggage area and that could be a problem if you actually need the space. Yes, it hasn't got an opening sunroof and that could be a problem if you are too tight to use your A/C. Yes, it hasn't quite got that 'command' driving position and that could be a problem for those that feel that height makes them feel superior to other road users but apart from that, mechanically and performance-wise the Evoque is as good as, if not better, than the FL2. Undeniably.

Having a good view of the road ahead has nothing to do with superiority, some of us prefer it. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200 |

Yes - boot space does matter when you regularly carry golf bags and trolleys or load up for caravanning holidays. I came down from LWB Shogun and BMW 5-series estate to the Freelander and ruled out the Yeti only because it's too small behind the rear seats.

I've got to say, when I first saw one when they were released, I though 'Who the hell is going to buy one of those?'. It grew on me. I thought the same about the DS when it came out and .....No! I mustn't go there! The Evoque suits our needs fine at the moment as we are past the lugging of kids and stuff around day in, day out and we only have one small cocker spaniel to fit in the back. I admit, when we go on holiday we have to lay the back seat down to get all our stuff in it if we are not just taking carry-on but you shouldn't buy a car for the half a dozen times you go to or from the airport each year - you should buy it for the 50 weeks per year that you are using it every day. The wife always said it looked like a Freelander that had been sat on by an elephant! Everyone's different I suppose and tastes change - what will most FL2 owners be replacing theirs with I wonder? Having had 4 FL1's/2 FL2/'s and 1 Evoque our family (3 drivers) think they all have their strengths , we just done 6 months driving in the Evoque and apart from the size (which turned out to be a bit of a problem for us ) we concluded it was an improvement on the Freelander .
