I'd really like to own Sir Jackie Stewart's dream car.

Oh, I already do! Laughing

What is your dream car?

"The Range Rover Evoque. Helen and I both have one. It’s just perfect for everything, I can go shooting, fishing, the dogs can get in the back, I can go to a banquet and of course, it looks good. I never wanted a Ferrari or a Maserati or anything like that." Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

"dogs" what's he got? Jack Russells Laughing

I only ever put one greyhound in mine.

The Evoque is a nice car, I would probably have one again. It's fantastic to drive and I ordered one before launch and it was the best car buying experience, the hype around the car was just crazy. It was supposed to arrive Christmas Eve 2011 but didn't take delivery until mid January 2012. There wasn't many around as they were subject to lengthy delays, so parking it up in car parks was just surreal, people coming over to see it in the flesh, come out from shopping to find people all over it. Other motorists letting me in/out of junctions just to get a good look at it.

It's stupid but that feeling I got when I finally got to hit the road with it will stay with me all my days.

It was just surreal.

Three dogs, no problem in an Evoque. Could probably squeeze a few Jack Russels in there too. Whistle

5 greyhounds are a bit of a squeeze though Laughing

To be fair though, the Evoque is a bit more spacious than it looks. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

My brother in law has a Disco 4 which was in for some work on the parking sensors, and has been loaned a 2016MY Disco Sport which he hates (mainly due to the low seating position and being too car like to drive)

He admits that he no longer needs a 7 seater as big as the Disco any more, and having driven both the DS and the Evoque much prefers the Evoque as there is nothing else in the LR line up that floats his boat. I feel the same as well.

Me, my brother and my son have also driven the DS and Evoque and all of us agree we don't like the driving position or style of the DS,

So the Evoque gets a big thumbs up from 4 family members here Thumbs Up

I can understand people knocking the Evoque for certain definable reasons - yes, it has got a smaller luggage area and that could be a problem if you actually need the space. Yes, it hasn't got an opening sunroof and that could be a problem if you are too tight to use your A/C. Yes, it hasn't quite got that 'command' driving position and that could be a problem for those that feel that height makes them feel superior to other road users but apart from that, mechanically and performance-wise the Evoque is as good as, if not better, than the FL2. Undeniably.

Quieter, more powerful and more fuel efficient engine, superior handling, Magneride suspension option, lower road tax, more ground clearance, nine speed gearbox and active driveline on the later models, many, many options to choose from etc etc but when it comes to looks, you know what they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but the fact that they are selling like hot cakes speaks absolute volumes.

Anyway, we now know what Sir Jackie thinks about the Evoque. I don't know what he thinks about the Bailey pageant tin tent but I'd lay money it isn't "and of course, it looks good". Laughing Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Having a good view of the road ahead has nothing to do with superiority, some of us prefer it. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Yes - boot space does matter when you regularly carry golf bags and trolleys or load up for caravanning holidays. I came down from LWB Shogun and BMW 5-series estate to the Freelander and ruled out the Yeti only because it's too small behind the rear seats.

Yes - high driving position is a godsend when your local driving involves sunken lanes with Cornish hedges.

I enjoy having Aircon and use it virtually permanently - but I still value an opening sunroof for summer driving.

I drove an Evoque once, on a LRE day. Lovely car to drive except for the low seating position. I just absolutely hate the squashed-up appearance of it, the clumsy treatment of the rear of the car and the lack of space inside. For rear-seat passengers and especially for luggage it's not a patch on the Freelander.

Lots of people disagree - who cares?

Happy summer. Enjoy whatever you drive. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

I've got to say, when I first saw one when they were released, I though 'Who the hell is going to buy one of those?'. It grew on me. I thought the same about the DS when it came out and .....No! I mustn't go there! The Evoque suits our needs fine at the moment as we are past the lugging of kids and stuff around day in, day out and we only have one small cocker spaniel to fit in the back. I admit, when we go on holiday we have to lay the back seat down to get all our stuff in it if we are not just taking carry-on but you shouldn't buy a car for the half a dozen times you go to or from the airport each year - you should buy it for the 50 weeks per year that you are using it every day. The wife always said it looked like a Freelander that had been sat on by an elephant! Everyone's different I suppose and tastes change - what will most FL2 owners be replacing theirs with I wonder? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Orkney Grey

Having had 4 FL1's/2 FL2/'s and 1 Evoque our family (3 drivers) think they all have their strengths , we just done 6 months driving in the Evoque and apart from the size (which turned out to be a bit of a problem for us ) we concluded it was an improvement on the Freelander .
As I said we just wanted something with a bit more space so after a test drive bought a 2.0 DS , initially I was against them when they 1st appeared but the have grown on me , space/visibility and driving position are improvements and we all prefer driving the DS to the Evoque now Very Happy

Nothing far wrong with any of them , there is a drop in performance on the new 2.0 DS engine compared to the previous 2.2 engine but not enough to bother us . FL2 gone now in 2016 Discovery 4 Loire Blue .
