Newbie with a question please?

Hi All

I'm (still) looking for a Freelander 2 and I have a very simple question,
I some models I have seen there have what looks like headphone sockets and (+) and (-) buttons in a panel between the the front seats, obviously for the rear seat passengers.
What do they do?
Are they simply fed from the cars head unit and if so what's the point?
Not every car I have looked at has them, even some of the HSE models which I thought had all the "boxes" ticked!

Many thanks

Mark

Maybe so that the rear passengers can listen to a CD while the driver listens to the radio or vice-versa? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Santorini Black

fitted on XS and above on early models, mine had them, apparently the rear passengers could use headphones to listen to CD etc whilst you had radio on.
stopped fitting in 2010 ish
