I have been told my tyre is not repairable - of course.
But do I just replace the one tyre, or the axel pair, or all four?

What is the collective wisdom?

The remaining tyres all have 6mm left on.

I'm assuming you don't have a spare wheel? If so you could invest in a matching alloy (they come up for sale quite regularly) and put two new tyres on the back and one of the existing ones on the spare. By judicious rotation over time you can end up with five tyres all the same depth. I have six matching wheels and by "resting" the most worn ones I've got all six down to the same tread depth (currently 6mm). Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Ensure that you have the same tread depth across an axle. You'll need to replace tyres as a pair.
Check your handbook, it should all be in there.

I'm not sure why they say do not rotate the tyres - from memory they also say the tyres should be rotated from side to side! Since I swap my tyres for a winter set and back every year, I'm unlikely to remember which one goes where anyway. Agreed. As long as the tread depths and tyres match across an axle, you should be fine.

In an increasingly litigious environment, it's probably best for a manufacturer to keep the advice simple and not open to interpretation.
