I'm guessing in his price bracket this would be the Mk1 X3 which was the runt of the BMW litter, from memory wasn't it made by someone else and BMW put their badge on it? Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black Gone - 2014 BMW X3 M Sport Space Grey, faultless! Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons Gone - 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Rimini Red with bodykit |

I think that one was built in Austria. It was slammed as a pig to drive, and useless off road. |

We have a 2009 GS Auto. A couple of things to check. Pop the cap on the power steering fluid reservoir, if the fluid looks like frothy muddy coffee walk away or get a £1000 reduction., make sure it has a service history commensurate with the mileage, don't worry if it hasn't been done every 12 months , but you want to see it minimum every 12k miles. The car is essentially quite a decent driver, it should be quiet and smooth at 60 mph . Knock it into manual and make sure that the box shifts up /down using pushes /pulls on the stick. Check that all 3 off road modes light up on the rotary wheel. Check the HDC mode, get on a steep hill with the HDC control turned on and let the car go down the hill without throttle, use the cruise +\- buttons and the car should speed up or down . Have a look at the trip computer , you should see somewhere between 28 mpg ( short runs ) to 36 mpg ( driven like a nun on dual carriageways ) . Check that all 4 doors and the tail gate lock/ unlock on the key button. Make sure the mirrors fold on ignition off. If everything is Ok it will not be a bad thing to own. There is a school of thought that says it will be a better more honest buy than an HSE with all the outdated electronics . If you do buy it , first thing, toss the headlight bulbs and buy some Phillips Xtreme or Osram Night Breakers.
