I needed a stop gap before I got my FL2, so bought a cheap, old Saab 9-5 estate (not bad to drive actually). Found a reasonable policy with Aviva for £182.

I'd been insured with LV for years, since well before they changed from Liverpool Victoria. This year's premium renewal seemed a bit steep so I went round to my friendly local insurance agent - it's good to deal with a real person. He shopped around for me and got a fairly good reduction with Highway. I'd never heard of Highway but I'm assured that the cover is identical and the service will be just as good. How do we know this? Because Highway is the branch of LV that you can only access via an agent!!! They even have the same address and 'phone numbers.

Most years I find I have to call LV and say that the increase is now a deal breaker, amazingly they always then find a lower quote. Simples ? FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

And the companies now all seem to have an automatic renewal in place, so you have to call them to cancel the policy, at which point they will offer you a cheaper deal. Are we turning into one of those third world countries where you are expected to bargain to get a good price? Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

I'm getting sick of playing this game each year with insurance companies. Why would they think I would pay nearly double each year when there's so many companies to choose from. £300 is my limit, under is good over is a big no no. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

I think insurance companies just hope there is a mug on the other end of the phone & will accept any silly figure that the system produces.

Evidently these insurers are having a hard time of it. According to the FT they are having to try every trick in the book to make you pay more as fewer young people are bothering to learn to drive and more people are using comparison sites. They expect it to get even less profitable when driverless cars come along which could be insured directly by the manufacturer. Lesson, don't buy insurance company shares for the long term. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I have been with Admiral for 8 years at a very good price. However this year they increased my wife's car by 43% (Fiat 500) and my FL2 by 29%. A quick compare on Moneysupermarket and LV= with same cover saved 10% on last year's premium. Both cars now comp and protected NCD with £250 excess for total of £343. That's £170 less than Admiral wanted. Yet another example of an insurer fleecing long standing customer. No second chance for Admiral. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

With LV for years. Quote came in last week and was 25% up. Got some quotes from other insurers, well cheaper. So back to LV and now £40.00 cheaper than last year. 3 polnts for speeding made no difference to policy cost!

It's a PITA but you need to shop round every renewal time. I have had a renew quote from one insurer £200 above the same quote I get online from directwecomparethechurchil.com for the same insurer, You just end up having a frustrating phone call and end up moving anyway. They rely on people being not bothered to check for a better quote.
