Halifax stopped my account once. I had made two small purchases on eBay (about 2 quid each) from a Chinese seller. Halifax fraud team flagged this up and stopped my card. I had to phone the bank to sort it out. Shortly after I changed to Santander and when buying from a Chinese eBay seller it caused no issues at all. I don't know if santanders security is poor compared to the Halifax's or not. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I don't use contactless often. I like it but always forget to use it. Security wise I think it's safer than entering your pin and like wise I think the bank will cover you from any fraud. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

They don't seem that confident with it - the spend limit is only £30! 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Slightly off the original topic but similar and worth flagging up I think - although I have pretty secure passwords for most things I tend to use an easy-to-remember one for those annoying online shops who insist on your having an "account" password. I had forgotten that I had used the same password for Amazon - the computer remembers and puts it in automatically so I hadn't noticed. Anyway, the problem is that Amazon remember your card number but don't have any security other than your password. Someone I'd dealt with elsewhere must have thought they'd try it out and entered my e-mail address and the same password I'd used for them. Bingo, they could order anything they like on my card!

Regarding security on line, whenever possible, I pay for items using my PayPal account. That way I do not need to register with the retailer, no additional passwords and don't even need to give them my address - PayPal do all what is needed.

I only have one password for pretty much everything its a seemingly random string of number and letters................ good luck trying to guess the random variations and minor additions/removals I make to it though. (and no it doesn't involve birthdays/anniversary's/names etc etc etc ) |

Once it's hacked, they have access to everything! Not a good idea! |

each sites password is a different sequence/combination of the characters with some having extra characters. The minimum length is 8 characters up to around 12 characters so how many different permutations does that give.? Anything to do with finances also has a minimum 2 stage security process requiring a 2nd password which are all completely different.

Not being a "memory man" I prefer to use Dashlane. 90 website passwords memorised & every one of them rated "safe" or "supersafe" and all different & unrelated. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Im sure we have all seen the video on youtube / facebook (cant remember which) of the guy on the underground with a POS reader, scanning the contactless cards in peoples back pockets. Also if you cancel your card, contactless purchases can still be made for up to a few days as some transactions are not live therefore the system isn't aware that the card has been cancelled. Its another step towards a cashless society ! Anyone remember the good old cheque book ?!!! LR Freelander 2 2014 metropolis SD4 auto in Loire Blue.
