My FL 2 SD4 auto on a 12 plate is in for service and MoT today.

Failed since pads down to bare metal and discs now need replacing too. Shouldn't there have been a warning message or light, after all I get a warning when the screen wash is low?

How can this be right when I bought it from LR 11 months ago at 3 yrs old with extended warranty? 13k miles done with me, mostly out of town.

Also, there is a major oil leak from the sump so sump needs replacing.

What line do you think I should take with the dealership?

No warning lights for brake pads but should be checked visually on a regular basis.
Brake pads and discs are a wear item and not usually covered by Warranty. Mine did 63000 before the pads needed changing but old ones still had lots of life in them but had gone shiny.

They should do the sump under warranty at least, unless they say its damaged due to mistreatment?
Sumps protected though with the guard unless its had a real hefty thump? otherwise it must be a manufacturing fault?

Or it's just the gasket ? As you say hard to believe the sump is knackered unless some severe impact at some point.

Well, apparently it is the gasket but usually when the alloy sump comes off it tends to twist so needs replacing.

Who designed that and thought it was a good idea? Are the made of tin foil?

Booked in for next week so hopefully covered by warranty.

I you bought from LR dealer with LR warranty you may also have, as part of warranty, an MOT failure insurance from LR.

I bought my Evoque from a LR dealer and also have the MOT guarantee but unless I'm reading it wrong, it's a bloody con! If, for example, my shock absorber fails or a spring breaks, it will be replaced for free under my used approved warranty. However, if it fails the MOT for a leaking shock or a broken spring, they will change it but I must pay the first £50. I don't see how they can get away with that. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Yes it's an interesting grey area. I had a wheel noisy wheel bearing replaced under extended warranty even though it would have passed the MOT. I wonder if the dealer has some discretion as I can't see them calling in an independent inspector for every job. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

If you bought it from a dealer then somewhere in the paperwork it would have had a 'health check', this would have stated the wear on the discs and pads as a forewarning.

a few years back I bought a car from Bristol Street Motors, it went back to them several times over the first 7/8 months with a loud noise from the rear (which I told them may be wheel bearings) but they could find no issue

I took it for a final time to a different branch who confirmed that one side bearing had completely gone over a period of time and the opposite side had started to fail due to the first bearings failure. Both rear wheels were also worn unevenly due to the bearing failures

They replaced the first wheel bearings under warranty, replaced the opposite set ''as a good will gesture'' but refused to replace the tyres as they were a wear and tear item, even though they admitted the bearing had caused the tyre wear.

Warranty companies will always squirm wherever they can, but sometimes they are a necessary evil

My own mechanic writes on the receipt the % of tyre & brake pad wear so I have an idea when they need replacing.

Tyres:
Front left 10% worn
Front right 10% worn
Rear left New
Rear right 10% worn

Brake Pads:
Front 10% worn
Rear 10% worn

Previous car, he even checks the spare!
