Sold my 2000MY Discovery TD5 a few weeks back and been looking around for a suitable replacement. Flip flopped between a Defender, Jap 4x4 and even double cabs, but like the comfort/towing combo of the FL2. I've found a 2007MY 2.2 TD4 SE manual with 125,000 on it. It has full LR service history, with new clutch and DMF recently done by an indie. It's due a service and - I'm guessing - the cambelt changing. I will also need to fit a towbar.

a massive leap in terms of comfort and reliability compared to your 2000 Disco.

pay some attention to the windows and door locks and sunroof, make sure they all open and close, window up and down doors form outside and inside and the tailgate handle works from outside.

Thanks all. The MoT ran out on Saturday (owner thought it ran to May, so is having it tested tomorrow). So it'll either fail on something drastic (in which case I'll walk away) or it'll have 12 months on it.

I'm not sure I would get LR to do the service. In my experience dealers don't know much about cars more than 3 years old and can either do a slapdash job or flag up faults that just aren't there. I realise not all dealers are the same, but for a car that age I'd look for a recommendation of a good indy (lots recommended on this forum). You can probably buy a warranty for peace of mind. If you do get it serviced by a Dealer you may be able to get a LR Select warranty, although I think the mileage would probably be too high. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

That's interesting. I'm sure extended warranty used to be only up to 5 years old. Does this mean reliability is improving?!!! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Thanks chaps. Looks like I may have bagged it for £5,800. LR dealer quoting £325 for the 9 year service (including break fluid change) vs £285 from my local indy LR specialist. I'm inclined to go with the dealer purely to keep the LR service history, but I appreciate that at this age it probably doesn't matter that much. Will look at warranty options. |

Remember that if you are able to go for the LR warranty, it will need an inspection by an LR dealer before they take it on. They could do this when they do the service..... 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Looks like the mileage may be too high, but no harm asking I guess. |

I would not want to touch a non LR warranty though. Save your money on the warranty and put it in the bank instead - you may need it! 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

My son had a Porsche 911 from an independent garage and bought a warranty with Warranty Direct. A fan on one of the radiators failed and he found that not only did you have to pay the first £50 but he had to guarantee payment for any dismantling to get to the fan then wait a couple of days for an inspector to show up to agree that the fan had failed. Second time was when the Xenon headlamp pop-up washers failed and they wouldn't pay up for it even though it's a legal requirement with Xenons to have working washers. After that he changed the vehicle and bought one from a Porsche garage with a Porsche warranty. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
