Germany 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Stornoway Grey
Pre 2013 instrument cluster background/skin

Hi Guys
I really enjoy my 2008 60 years edition the car although 2008 its design from the outside still looks unique and fresh but inside it's where things looks very bad.
I really hate the instrument cluster, it looks like a copy of Ford Focus of that time and the green backlight doesn't help it either.
Is there a possibility to upgrade to the post 2013 cluster with at least basic functionality of the LCD screen? or is there a possibility to change the backlight to another color and put some white back ground plates around the speedometer and RPM display.

I found this on the net but no details

You can't upgrade to post 2013 because of the technical difficulties. Different platforms, CAN IDs, etc.
The rest of questions: yes. Change LEDs inside, change plastic plates like in the picture, etc.

I know that the plates can be changed but the problem is i can not find a source that makes them for the FL2 or RR of that time (same cluster)

But a computer, a printer and a lot of imagination isn't good enough?... Laughing Laughing
In the end, even a piece of paper is OK and it's not necessary to be plastic.
Then it will be somehow a "negative" style for symbols....
The background of the symbol will be lit and the black symbol will be dark.

Paper will not last due to the elements the car is subjected to, if it was possible LR would have done it to save money.
Nevertheless you got me started to think about buying a broken cluster and practice on it the LED's change and sending the plate to be copied by a company that doing this sort of stuff.

Why don't you experiment with carbon fibre sheet? It's widely available in all sorts of colours and textures and should do what you desire.
To update your dated dash layout you could even wrap the dash or binnacles which has an instant effect - loads of Jaguar X-Type owners have done this to very good effect No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

I must admit I'm not a big fan of the green backlights, on either the instruments or the radio. I think it makes the interior of the car feel quite old to be honest!

I did found that there is a white dials option

still need some more work like making the rings from aluminium look to carbon fiber look and all the rest of black into brushed aluminum.

I checked and there are allot of clusters out there for sale, i will buy one and send it to a professional for customization, the only problem now is that a different cluster will create a failure code and as far as i understood need some kind of resetting by dealer, is it true?
