LR have built in excess of 2000 stock defenders of varying types which can be registered up until the end of 2017. This is to bridge the gap until the new Defender arrives in 2019.

But the current cars can't be registered after 31st December 2017.

How does this work with EU6 regulations. My dealer got theirs delivered and registered them all before the EU6 deadline in 2015 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Fuji White

We were told on the tour in January that every unit was a customer order, all pretty much bought and paid for. Of course that doesn't mean some of them will not be delivered and registered straight away. Neil Hampson

When I went on the factory tour they said they only make vehicles to order: end customer ordered (one of us or a commercial user) or main dealer buying for their own stock which they order themselves so they have them available for display and demo. These vehicles are also up for sale too.
Some prices are high but they're the special celebration series produced in limited quantity which were advertised with a sale cat price of up to £61,845 for the 90 station wagon autobiography. Hippo's videos - Honorary Tratterer

There are in effect two separate issues. Not being allowed to build after a certain date, and then not being able to register after a certain date.

Vauxhall had a similar issue with Astra's built with the old VXR Z20LEH engine. They could build up until the end of 2010, but could register cars that were already built until the end of 2011. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather.
