You don't say what year it is but BMW did a recall for faulty brakes on the 2006 1 series.

BMW are currently offering a free "vehicle enhancement" to certain 1 series models. Our 2014 car was done recently. We got a call out of the blue from the dealers asking us to book it in. I asked what the problem was and was told it was something to do with water getting into the brake pad panels (?). |

Sounds to me like the One Way Valve for the Vacuum servo has failed resulting in a very Firm Brake Pedal there was a recall a while back by Bmw for this issue. |
