Recommend Engine Oil

I am due for a service soon and plan to buy my own oil for my local garage to use.
I just wondered what the guys on here with Freelander 2's with no DPF use?

Many thanks
Andy

I'm using Shell Helix, I think others are using Castrol Magnatec.

Castrol Edge 5 -30 at my garage. I see somewhere that there is now a Castrol Edge Titanium that is said to be used by Land Rover in all new motors? Doesn't appear to be that much more in cost.

My LR dealer always uses Castrol Edge and there is a 1 litre unopened bottle left in the car after every service, also there is a sticker on the car under the bonnet (looks like from new) saying use Castrol Edge.

ps we also have a Porsche and it's quite common for Porsche owners to supply their own oil for a service even to main dealers, maybe the fact that you need about 8.5 litres of Mobil 1 for a "dry sump" engine concentrates the mind.

I have used Shell Helix AF specific to the Land Rover and Ford engine specification for many years. It is an ACEA B5 spec oil with excellent shear characteristics (ie: the long molecules of oil are resistant to breaking into shorter molecules and hence degrading the oil over time).

Compared with previous oils it does not degrade towards the end of the service life before oil change.

The spec I use is Shell Helix AF meets Ford WSS-M2C913-C (which I think is backwards compatible to 913B). The Freelander 2 diesel 2.2 unit is a Ford Peugeut joint venture engine.
