That low battery sign seems to come on without much provocation. Some forum members have found that the warning comes up almost immediately if you leave the radio on, even on new cars. Easy enough to get the battery checked - it may be fine. If you're not using it much I'd invest in a charger to keep the battery in top condition. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Not that I flog my car to death & it's garaged. I have stuck the multimeter on it a few times & also videoed current draw on starting. The car starts in 0.5 second. The message has comes up a few times fairly quickly if I have sat in the car listening to the radio while waiting for other half to return. I think mainly from a combination of a handful of short trips & listening to radio & always running air conditioning while driving. I was also fiddling on the car at the time so leaving doors open probably didn't help either. Battery performance is, starting current 280 amps, then very quickly it started charging & reached & settled to 80 amps charging.

If the charging system and the battery are OK then the things you use draw a very small current. I would check the charging system and battery. |

Agree, but it will add up. I don't know how much things draw, but lets say, fans, air conditioning clutch, audio, lights, engine fan, at say 200 watts each, at 12 volts that adds up to about 83 amps for these 5 things already.

an 8year old battery is on borrowed time,of course there is allways the exception to the rule, but im testing batteries all day,and replacing this kind of age battery, the more the car is used the longer the battery will last, leaving one standing for weeks will ruin it eventually. |

I replace mine every 4 years whether they need it or not. The last car 17 years old, was sitting in the garage for 4 months while on holiday in Europe, the battery was in it's fourth year. Pumped up the tyres before I left so they don't get flat spots. Car started as if I had driven it the day before! With all the electrics in the Freelander I don't think I will be so lucky. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
