2.2 Water pump

On the left, we have a water pump from LR, to fit a 2.2 Freelander (which is a PSA engine)
On the right, we have a water pump from a Citroen, a part of the PSA group

As you can see, same part numbers, identical in every way, except price.

LR pump retails at £129.96 + VAT
Citroen part retails at £72.60 + VAT

Might save someone a few quid when it comes to replacing the timing belt and water pump Whistle

FWIW, belt kit prices without the pump are comparable between manufacturers, just a rather large difference in water pump prices Thumbs Up

the indy garage ive used for years once told me a story about a Jaguar X type they had in.

A part (cant remember what it was) had failed and needed a new genuine replacement. The part was marked up with Ford stamps etc as it was a 2.2D Xtype, the same floorplan and engine as the Mondeo equivalent.

My indy went to Ford for the part as it was considerably cheaper than the same part from Jaguar, but were told they could not order the part without a valid reg no and chassis number for a Mondeo. They were forced to pay the higher Jaguar price.

Don't know if this ruling still stands when ordering parts from some manufacturers.... Shocked

I'm sure it would be possible to obtain said details of a suitable vehicle to give them if it came to that...

I suppose with todays etched VIN numbers in the windscreen you could get away with just walking round Tesco car park (other supermarket chains are available) and noting down some random vehicle details Laughing

My cousin had a similar story from the independent garage he runs.

Had a Porsche in with failed wheel bearing (or something similar - can't quite remember precisely what it was).

Price from Porsche was something bonkers like £700+.

As it happened, after a little detective work and a tip off from (of all people) the parts guy at the local Porsche dealership, it transpired that the same part is used on a few vehicles in the VW range and cost only £69.99 including VAT.

Isn't the 2.2 engine a Peugeot/Citroen diesel design built by Ford anyway? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

I went for a suspension part for my Saab. £70 not in stock so will have to be ordered.

Me. How much is the same part for a Vectra ?
Parts bod. Have you got the part number ?
Me. No you are the one with all the part lists.
Parts bod. I can't look up the price without a part number and I can't look up the part number without a reg number for the car.
Same part for Vectra was identical in stock and cost £8 Mine, Saab convertible
Hers, MY08 GS auto

This situation has been going on for years.
SU fuel pump for a Rover 3500 V8 £40 same SU number with a Bentley label stuck over original £100, That was around 1966.
Thermostat for a Saab 99 was twice the price of one for Triumph Dolomite Sprint.
And many more I cant remember figures for.

Re FL2 and Mondeo, the FL" was designed when Ford still owned Jaguar and LR.

On jaguar/Ford refusal to supply, I ordered a Mondeo ST 220 front hub carrier from Ford Main Dealers by Vehicle OFF Road special order for overnight delivery, correct part arrived with Jaguar molded into casting. ST220 had larger bearing than standard Mondeos. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

Youre paying for the logo on the box sometimes, such as Citroen parts used on a Bentley, exactly the same, even have Citroen stamped on the part, £100 more for a posh box, not sure if its velvet lined, could be? Rolling Eyes

I would suggest to make new topic to all listed parts which is possible to get on different brand and are compatible to freelander 2
Like volvo haldex oils, haldex filter and so on! Who could make this Smile?
+ included whit part numbers and prices.

This would save alot of our moneys.

Like i have done, used volvo haldex parts
